Abstract: | Several isolates from well sediments were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and screened for antibiotic resistance and for the presence of extrachromosomal elements. Most strains were resistant to ampicillin and chloramphenicol and only five harboured plasmids. Two or them, pAz-10 and pC-20 were found to be responsible for azlocillin and chloramphenicol resistance, respectively. This was demonstrated indirectly by their ability to confer resistance to these antibacterials when transformed into susceptible Escherichia coli hosts |
